100 kg yarn

Two and a half years ago, I saw a post on Instagram from Textilosaurus offering large quantities of carpet yarn for sale. The yarn was a leftover batch from Huttwil spinning mill, but unfortunately, it had proven unsuitable for tufting as it was simply too thick. Now the yarn needed to go, as it was taking up too much storage space.

After exchanging a few messages, we loaded up our van and drove toward Oberaargau. I bought a bit of all three colors: light beige, light brown, and light gray-blue, plus a few spools of light brown wool warp yarn. However, I quickly realized that the colors were too similar to weave striped carpets. The pattern would be dull and lack contrast.

I decided to pursue two directions: carpets with a pronounced texture and carpets with warp-based patterns. Countless weaving samples followed, exploring warp and weft thread densities and pattern possibilities. The options are endless, but to finally make a decision, I chose to start with a thick and a thin variant.

The options are endless, but to finally make a decision, I chose to start with a thick and a thin variant. The thin carpets are a rep weave with stripes and color contrast, while the thick ones are a twill with distinct texture.
