Rondastakk

The aim of this project initiated by Mona Løkting and myself was to reconstruct some of the old dresses at the museum of Maihaugen in Lillehammer, in order to get more variety in fabrics available for the traditional costume called rondastakk. Rondastakk simply means striped dress in Norwegian. This folk costume has been in use since the 1830, it consists of a striped wool or half-wool  dress in plain weave with a bodice attached to it. It was used all year around and on Sundays and workdays alike. The photo gallery shows some of the textiles at Maihaugen, weaving of the three fabrics we decided to make and the gorgeous folk costumes handsewn by Mona Løkting.
